San Francisco Memories - Part Two

On our way to and from Muir Woods, we drove over the Golden Gate bridge. It was definitely a "pinch me" moment! The bridge is just as big and beautiful as I expected.
We also drove over to Sausalito for an afternoon. It is such a cute town! We stopped for lunch at Scoma's, a delicious seafood restaurant right on the water. I tried the fish tacos. So good! Visiting Sausalito was definitely one of my favorite parts of the trip.
I spent my last day in SF with my friend and knitting buddy, Emma. First, we drove up to Twin Peaks to see the amazing view of the city. The fog made the city look so mysterious. After taking in the view we went to the Mission area to explore. We tried Mission Cheese for lunch and it was probably definitely one of the best meals of my life. The California Gold sandwich is AMAZING. Emma and I split an order of macaroni and cheese too. So much cheese! It was more than worth it.

We also stopped by the famous Tartine for a coffee and grabbed a croissant to-go. I had mine the next morning for breakfast.

This was an amazing vacation that I will never forget! Even though I have been sick and sneezing all week I am thankful that the allergies hit me when I stepped off the plane in Dallas and not in San Francisco. :)

You can see part one of my trip to SF here!

San Francisco Memories - Part One

I feel extremely blessed to have had the opportunity to visit a beautiful city like San Francisco. I had the best time! I didn't have a strict plan for my visit. I knew of a few landmarks and restaurants I wanted to see, but other than that, I was prepared to wing it and just enjoy what I discovered along the way. When we arrived in the city, we had the best Italian dinner at Fino. My delicious ravioli vanished before I remembered my camera! Oops.

We visited the Ferry Building Marketplace on our first morning in SF. The second I walked in I wanted to eat everything in sight. My first target was Blue Bottle Coffee. I had a latte and picked up a few bags of beans to take home. It was a difficult decision, but I ended up trying a breakfast sandwich from Il Cane Rosso. The Ferry Building has so many amazing options to choose from, like Cowgirl Creamery and Biscuit Bender
I wanted to go to the Ferry Building on a Tuesday because I read that is when they have their farmer's market! The produce looked so fresh. Most of the vendors offered samples too. I tried a white peach and it was probably the best peach I ever tasted. They also had a few flower stalls among the fruits and veggies. These sweet peas were so fragrant and lovely!
After touring the Ferry Building and the farmer's market, we walked down to Pier 39. We took a ferry across the bay to a little town called Tiburon. It is a very quiet seaside town filled with cute shops and gorgeous views. We had a great seafood lunch at Sam's Anchor Cafe and just walked around for a few hours.
One of my favorite experiences from the trip was walking through the Muir Woods National Park. The redwood trees are so HUGE. I felt like a little ant staring up at the tops of the trees. It is such a calming and beautiful place. I shot a roll of film during our hike through the woods. Fingers crossed the prints turn out ok! I will post them on the blog as soon as I get the roll of film developed.
We found this lookout point on the side of the road when we were driving back from the Muir Woods. My nerves kept me from walking all the way out where those brave people are standing. The wind was blowing so hard I thought I might get swept over the edge. Yikes! It was a beautiful view though! ;)

I will share more photos and stories tomorrow!

Have you ever traveled to San Francisco? Are you going on any trips this summer? I would love to hear your adventures!

The Blush List - SF Inspired

Knitting // The cold wind in San Francisco made me feel silly for not packing a warm cowl in my suitcase! The avery and anouk cowl designs from Quince & Co. are stunning.
Crochet // I couldn't get enough of the plants, flowers, and greenery in SF. This crochet planter cover by Belle Fleur de Lis is so lovely! I love all of her beautiful crochet work.
Etsy // A sweet, block printed sweater journal from Upper Tiny. I love any city that allows me to wear sweaters in May!
Art // I experienced Blue Bottle Coffee for the first time at the Ferry Building location last week and savored every delicious sip. I purchased a few bags of beans so I can brew a cup of Blue Bottle at home! Now I need to invest in a french press. Illustration by Lan Truong.
Style // This outfit from Cuillere a absinthe is my ideal outfit for the chilly weather in SF last week! Good walking shoes and lots of warm layers for when the weather changes quickly. Next time I visit I will be prepared. :)
Food // One of my favorite breakfasts was from Cowgirl Creamery. I tried the poached egg over grits. I loved it so much that I really want to recreate it at home! This recipe for a poached egg over polenta with olive oil pesto from theKitchn looks like a great option!

Happy Sunday!

These finds are inspired by my trip to San Francisco last week. I had such a great time! It really is a beautiful city and I can't wait to visit again. The combination of delicious food, beautiful weather, and gorgeous scenery made for a week filled with great memories.

Upon arrival, Texas greeted me with open arms, severe humidity, and an unfortunate case of allergies. Starting a new week with a stuffy head isn't exactly ideal. Hopefully this congestion will go away soon. Until then, bring on the tea and going to bed early!

How was your weekend? Are you starting any new projects this week? I would love to see!

Enjoy the rest of your day.

San Francisco Instagram Photos!

I love San Francisco! I had the best time visiting such a beautiful, chilly, sunny, foggy, and colorful city for the first time this week. I flew home to Dallas yesterday and spent most of the plane ride looking through photos on my phone. I am having a hard time picking a favorite memory from the trip. I loved everything from the delicious food to the buckets of flowers on the streets. These are just a few of my favorite Instagram photos from the week!

The weather was perfect, although, I wish I would have packed a scarf and an extra sweater or two! I appreciated the cold weather because I knew I would come home to a hot and muggy Texas. I can't wait to visit SF again! I will share more photos and stories about the places I visited next week. Thank you again for all of your kind recommendations!

Now it is time to rest a little, do a giant pile of laundry, and get psyched for an exciting week ahead!

I hope you had a great week too! What are you up to this weekend?

What's In My Yarn Bag? with Tara-Lynn from Good Night, Day

Today I am happy to introduce an incredibly talented knitwear designer and fiber-fanatic from Canada, Tara-Lynn and her beautiful shop Good Night, Day. She uses fair-trade sourced alpaca, merino, and cashmere blends to create her modern handknit designs. I am so excited to take this peek inside her project bag and learn more about her creative process.

What do you typically keep in your yarn bag?

Although I am mostly knitting indoors, at my home, which doubles as my work studio, I actually prefer to knit outdoors when weather allows. Now that it is finally spring in Canada, & close to summer, I tend to use this enormous straw purse, that works especially well
storing more than just knitting project or order, ie cell phone, sunglasses, lipstick & a magazine (usually a book too). So, along with the actual knit items, (always I have more than one knitting project on the go), I also carry my own copy of the knitting booklet, (I have a pretty awful memory at times), & I use this falconwright clutch that works well to hold scissors, dpn's, measuring tape & stitch markers tucked into a tea tin.
When did you start knitting? How did you learn?

I am a self-taught knitter, so I spent many hours pouring over library books & youtube tutorials, until it finally stuck. I also taught myself to design my own patterns, because I wasn't always fond of the fussy patterns out there, & started  using skills I was discovering that made knitting easier, less time consuming, like seamless knitting. I've been knitting for under a decade now.
Are you working on any fun projects? We want to see!
I've begun to work on even more DIY inspired projects, like adding the custom hand crafted extra large circular knitting needles I use to the shop & even the fair trade south american sourced wool.  It's been thrilling to share what i know, rather than hoarding my patterns & supplies. I just printed my fifth edition of the good night day: modern & minimalist knitting patterns booklet, I do everything involved in the making of the book & then have it printed locally. So now i am in the works of doing the
second knitting booklet, which will include the kingston sweater, which has been the most requested of my items to have in pattern form, & even new items from my most recent f/w 13 collection, like the petawawa toque (which is offered as part of a knitting kit already).
What is your favorite knit creation that you've ever made?
I'm really proud of the perth cardigan, I've wanted to design this forever & have it available as hand knit item in the shop. However, my favorite items to knit are quick, because i am impatient & the reward is pretty instant to see, so my knits like the simcoe cable headband or the markham loop collar do the trick, love doing cables & loop stitches, also the wool used is ultra soft to knit with.
Do you like to carry your yarn bag with you and work on your crochet projects in public? Where do you feel most comfortable knitting and crocheting?
I've probably knit everywhere you can imagine, for two reasons because I am addicted to knitting and I have orders to fill /or inventory. Obviously, it is most comfortable at home, on my couch, with my
cat, while watching tv, I have a weakness for documentaries & period dramas. But I am always prepared to knit anywhere.

What is your favorite part about knitting?
In the beginning knitting was a creative outlet, that also was a comfort to me, as I am an anxious sort of person. I hope that knitting can continue to also help me further financially support myself & my family, which feels really empowering if I can make it work out. I have just so many more ideas i want to design, knit & share.

Thank you so much for sharing! Your knitwear designs are gorgeous and inspiring.

I hope you enjoyed getting to know Tara-Lynn!

Published in Crochet Today!

It is such an honor to have an interview and my first pattern published in the June/July issue of Crochet Today! I picked up this magazine when I first taught myself to crochet and was finally ready to give patterns a try. I can't believe I have my own pattern published in the magazine! So exciting!

The apple and orange potholders remind me of trips to the farmer's market during the summer. I can't wait to visit the local markets again! I really want to drive out to the Ham Peach Orchards for some peach ice cream. ;)

Make sure you check out the June/July issue this month! I hope you enjoy the patterns! :)

How is your week going so far? Thank you for the San Francisco recommendations!
